YOUNG SUNSHINE

We were able to acquire this exceptionally well-bred mare following the dispersal sale of the late trainer Alan Swinbank.

Young Sunshine is by the stallion Pour Moi, who gets a high percentage of winners, and when he covered her dam he stood at Coolmore, commanding a stud fee of €20,000. He was a Derby winner, from the brilliant family of Lammtarra, so his name on the pedigree is a huge plus.

Gara Molly, her dam, is also a boost to her pedigree. She was trained by Alan Swinbank, and placed on five of her nine starts. He thought enough of her to send her to the paddocks when she retired, which was a good decision as both of her previous offspring have been winners.

Her first foal, Dr Phibes, was also trained by Alan and won as a two year old before being sold to go racing abroad where he won again.

Molly Dolly was her second foaland was trained by Sir Mark Prescott. She won twice and was placed twice from only six starts in her debut season at three, coming third in a Listed Race at Ascot. The following season she moved to Ireland, where she was placed four times, including Listed and Group 3 events, further enhancing the pedigree with more black type.

Young Sunshine is her third foal, and has been lightly raced, with only two outings in NH Flat races as a four year old. That was just a couple of months after the unexpected passing of her trainer Alan Swinbank, and in her second race she was an encouraging 5th of 12, then was turned away to mature.
