Trainer Selection

Choosing the right trainer is crucial. We work with trainers who have an exceptional track record in placing their horses to achieve the best possible results. We look for a high strike rate of winners to runners, and wins to runs. The statistics below are for horses syndicated by Amazing Racing, and show we do a pretty decent job of choosing good trainers!

Ivan Furtado - New For 2019!

Ivan Furtado grew up on his family ranch in Brazil, and was always interested in becoming a trainer after helping his grandfather look after his quarter horses.

He came to the UK to improve his English, and got a job with NH trainer Jim Old, learning a lot from his five years there. He then spent two years at Roger Charlton’s as assistant trainer, and was involved with some great horses. He rode Group One winner Al Kazeem in most of his work, and other stars like Cityscape and Time Test made it an exciting period. Finally, he assisted former trainer Alan McCabe. before he started training in his own right in 2015.

He has improved his number of winners every year, has achieved impressive strike rates both on grass and on the All-Weather, with all ages of horses.

In November 2018 he moved to Averham Park Stables, in Nottinghamshire – where he worked with Alan McCabe – so he knows the yard well, and is making use of the fabulous facilities. The purpose built yard has grass and all weather Polytrack gallops, as well as a one furlong covered all weather exercise track, an Equine swimming pool, and plenty of turnout paddocks to keep the horses fresh.

We look forward to our association with Ivan, and would recommend that new owners get involved with this up and coming young trainer.

Jennie Candlish

Jennie Candlish trains at Basford Grange, near Leek in Staffordshire, assisted by her partner, the former jumps jockey Alan O’Keeffe. Jennie started out training Arabians, which she also rode, and she became Champion Trainer in the Arabian racing world.

As a result of this success, she was encouraged to take over her current yard to train thoroughbreds, and she has certainly proven her ability over the years.

Although probably seen mainly as a National Hunt trainer, her strike rate with horses on the Flat is spectacular. She also does very well with her jumpers, and has produced consistently good results over several seasons.

Jennie is also skilled in chiropractic techniques and acupuncture, and this helps enormously with any horses who may have minor problems or injuries. Jennie and Alan make a great team, and we are delighted to be involved in the yard!
