Floats On Air at Thirsk

Floats On AIr made his debut at Thirsk yesterday and there were a lot of positives to take from his first outing. He looked great in the parade ring and has the appearance of a proper athlete. He took everything in his stride, showed a great temperament, and wasn’t bothered by the noise.

In the preliminaries, he behaved like a gentleman at the stalls, was very calm, and didn’t get spooked by a couple of others getting unruly around him. He broke well, before being dropped in towards the rear going round the bend, but travelled sweetly during the race.

Our jockey said when they wound up for the 3f sprint off the final bend, they just went a bit fast for him – understandably as this was too short a trip – but Ivan wanted to get him started somewhere. Nevertheless, he lengthened his stride and ran on, and our jockey wasn’t hard on him in the final furlong, to ensure he enjoyed the experience.

Most importantly, he ran on through the line, and it took the jockey an age to pull him up. He had lots left in the tank, and over the right trip will have plenty of running in him.

Despite his finishing position, there was a lot to like about how he went about his business. He was running against some good horses over an inadequate trip, and there is plenty to look forward to with this fella.
